Leviticus

Leviticus Reveals the Heart of God who Desires to Dwell with His People

The responsibility of holy living for the Israelites was serious, and the consequences unholy living were grave. The Israelites were headed for the Promised Land, which was promised to Abraham 430 years earlier. In order to possess it, they were going to have to drive out the Canaanites who lived there. The Israelites greatly needed exact guidelines and instructions for both worship and holy living in order to survive the new land and continue to live in the presence of God.

God Raised up Judges

The Judges were Appointed by God to Deliver and Maintain Order Among the Israelites

The events recorded in the book of Judges took place within a four hundred year gap in between the conquest of Canaan and the establishment of the Hebrew monarchy. The tribes of Israel had taken their inheritance and were located in different regions of Canaan. Each tribe probably had a smaller system of community and government but Israel was governed by God as a whole. This form of government is known as a Theocracy. Christian New Year -- Historical and Spiritual Aspects

The Christian New Year Begins on January First According to the Gregorian Calendar

For political and military reasons, January 1, 153 B.C. became the beginning of the new year. The Roman calendar was widely used throughout western Europe, until revised by Aloysius Lilius, an Italian doctor, astronomer, philosopher and chronologist. Pope Gregory XIII commanded Christians to use this new and improved calendar in 1582, and named it after himself. It is still the most widely used calendar in the world.
